Risha Irvin

Health Equity Program Director, Johns Hopkins Health System

Dr. Risha Irvin is an associate professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases where she focuses on improving the health of vulnerable populations impacted by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Dr. Irvin obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology from Spelman College where she was valedictorian. She then obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and master’s in public health in the concentration of family and community health from Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Irvin completed her residency training in internal medicine at the University of California San Francisco in the primary care program based at San Francisco General Hospital. She has served as an HIV Prevention Trials Network Scholar and a Presidential Leadership Scholar. At Johns Hopkins, she serves as Health Equity Program Director for Johns Hopkins Health System and Vice Chair of Inclusive Excellence and Community Health for the Department of Medicine. Her R01 focuses on the impact of HCV testing and treatment in incarcerated persons on HCV elimination in the US. Due to her work related to decreasing health disparities in hepatitis C, she was selected as a member the of the National Hepatitis C Elimination Team led by Dr. Francis Collins, former director of the NIH.
